Non-traditional model organisms

Contributing to the establishment of emerging and novel model organisms by developing imaging approaches and defining parameters for minimally invasive fluorescence microscopy, A particular focus is on reef-building corals.

Instrument design

I have developed a light-sheet fluorescence microscope for micro- to macroscopic imaging of large samples with minimal photodamage. 

Photobiology and -toxicity

Using a variety of organisms, we investigate how they cope with light - or are damaged by it. This is particularly relevant in live fluorescence microscopy, Minimising photodamage is crucial to live imaging and requires organism-specific approaches for reduction and assessment.
